Rose Community Foundation Announces Grants from Fourth Quarter of 2015

Denver, CO—During the fourth quarter of 2015, Rose Community Foundation awarded 335 grants totaling more than $6 million. Of this amount, $5,180,310 was awarded for 67 grants from Rose Community Foundation’s program areas to nonprofit organizations, government agencies and projects that support the health and well-being of the Greater Denver community. Donor-advised funds housed at the Foundation approved 268 grants totaling $1,180,985. Rose Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $239 million since its inception in 1995.

The Foundation’s board of trustees authorized the following grants between October 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015:

PROGRAM AREA GRANTS

Aging

Catholic Health Initiatives Colorado Foundation (Colorado Springs): $100,000 for Centura Health LINKS, a program that  informs, counsels and assists older adults in the Great Denver community to access and apply for federal, state and local public benefits.

City and County of Denver Agency for Human Rights and Community Partnerships (Denver): $15,000 to the Commission on Aging to support an assessment of older adult needs in the city and county of Denver.

Colorado Department of Human Services – Colorado Commission on Aging (Denver): $215,000 for Senior Source, a multi-media information and education campaign designed to bring resources to older adults and their caregivers.

Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (Denver): $20,000 to support Neighbor Network, which provides transportation and in-home supportive services that promote independent living for isolated older adults in Douglas County.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of Colorado (Denver): $30,000 for SAGE of the Rockies to help a naturally occurring retirement community to serve as a central place to connect LGBT and non-LGBT older adults with comprehensive programs and services.

Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (Denver): $15,000 for care management services to low-income older adults in the Greater Denver community.

Senior Support Services, Inc. (Denver): $40,018 over two years to support a multi-service day center for low-income and homeless older adults in downtown Denver.

Seniors’ Resource Center (Denver): $115,500 for direct services, including transportation, to help older adults residing in the Greater Denver community remain independent.

Volunteers of America Colorado Branch (Denver): $50,000 to support a program that provides minor home repairs and home safety modifications for older adults in the Greater Denver community.

Child and Family Development

The Acorn School for Early Childhood Development (Boulder): $10,000 for the development of a new program that will provide high-quality early education during the summer.

The Bell Policy Center (Denver): $30,000 toward a grant totaling $85,000 for statewide research and analysis, public education, collaboration, outreach and advocacy. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Children First of the Rockies (Longmont): $10,000 to support a parent education program that provides Latino parents with tools to support the health of their children and increase parent involvement in the St. Vrain Valley School District.

Children’s Haven Child Care Center (Lakewood): $10,000 for quality improvements to an early education center in Southwest Denver.

Clayton Early Learning (Denver): $8,000 to support state-level early childhood advocacy efforts by helping with the local match for the 2015-16 Alliance for Early Success grant.

Colorado Children’s Campaign (Denver): $100,000 toward a grant totaling $300,000 over two years for a statewide organization that provides effective advocacy for children across three areas of focus: healthcare, early childhood development and K-12 education. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Colorado Parent & Child Foundation (Denver): $10,000 to implement a tool to help parents and caregivers become “brain builders” for children ages birth to five years.

Community Action Development Corporation (Boulder): $10,000 to support a program that focuses on ending poverty by assisting families in creating supportive relationships to build long-term empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Denver Asset Building Coalition (Denver): $20,000 to provide free tax preparation, financial education and financial services to low-income people in Denver and Aurora.

Denver Public Schools Foundation (Denver): $15,000 to support a birth through third grade learning and development strategy.

Early Childhood Council of Boulder County (Lafayette): $25,000 toward an effort to ensure all young children aged birth to five years in Boulder County are ready to succeed in school and in life.

Early Milestones Colorado (Denver): $10,000 to support an assessment of established efforts to educate parents and caregivers about their vital role in child development and learning.

Family Resource Center Association (Denver): $265,000 to strengthen the statewide network of 23 family resource centers in Colorado that provide comprehensive community-based support in order to improve the lives of individuals and families.

Growing Home (Westminster): $20,000 to support early childhood intervention programs.

Invest in Kids (Denver): $50,000 for continuing high-quality implementation of a program that supports the health and well-being of vulnerable children and their families.

Jeffco Public Schools (Golden): $17,876 to support a program that partners with parents to prepare their children for school success.

Metropolitan State University of Denver Foundation (Denver): $10,000 for a program that works to improve literacy and educational attainment in families.

Mi Casa Resource Center (Denver): $15,000 to implement the organization’s major gifts development plan.

Policy Matters (Wheat Ridge): $8,333 toward a grant totaling $25,000 for state-level legislative monitoring services. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Reach Out and Read Colorado (Denver): $15,000 to prepare Colorado’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with pediatricians to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.

Early Childhood Funders Collaborative (Boston, MA): $10,000 to support grantmaking in early childhood care and education. Third Sector New England serves as the fiscal sponsor.

Education

Achievement Network (Boston, MA): $100,000 for the organzation’s efforts to improve classroom instruction in Denver Public Schools.

Adams County School District 50 (Westminster): $105,000 to provide professional development for teachers to strengthen their skills in teaching the competency-based model.

Aurora Public School District (Aurora): $150,000 for the district to establish an “innovation zone” to turn around low-performing schools in the district.

The Bell Policy Center (Denver): $25,000 toward a grant totaling $85,000 for statewide research and analysis, public education, collaboration, outreach and advocacy. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

City and County of Denver, Office of Children’s Affairs (Denver): $15,000 to support the Denver After School Alliance’s evaluation of program outcomes.

The Colorado Education Initiative (Denver): $150,000 for the organization to implement a new strategic planning tool that also integrates their current initiatives.

Colorado Children’s Campaign (Denver): $100,000 toward a grant totaling $300,000 over two years for a statewide organization that provides effective advocacy for children across three areas of focus: healthcare, early childhood development and K-12 education. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Colorado League of Charter Schools (Denver): $25,000 to support a teacher’s council comprised of highly effective educators at charter schools.

The Denver Foundation (Denver): $15,000 for a city-wide campaign to recruit and maintain teachers and school leaders of color.

Denver Public Schools Foundation (Denver): $50,800 to develop a district strategy and begin to replicate two high-performing public innovation schools through a new entity that adopts systems, structures and policies to effectively manage the schools.

Generation Teach, Inc. (New York): $50,000 for a program that recruits diverse college and college-bound students into the field of education.

The Keystone Center (Keystone): $50,000 to support a program that creates innovative and effective approaches to educator preparation.

Policy Matters (Wheat Ridge): $8,333 toward a grant totaling $25,000 for state-level legislative monitoring services. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Public Education & Business Coalition (Denver): $50,000 to increase the number of students taught by highly-effective teachers in North Denver .

Rose Community Foundation (Denver):

  • $5,000 to support a breakfast event featuring national speaker and Executive Director of Education at Gallup, Brandon Busteed.
  • $50,000 to support the Colorado Education Organizing Funders Collaborative which exists to improve equitable opportunities and education outcomes for low-income students, especially in communities of color.
  • $100,000 for the Climb Higher Colorado Initiative to deepen understanding and build support for critical components to student success and school improvement in Colorado.

Health

The Bell Policy Center (Denver): $30,000 toward a grant totaling $85,000 for statewide research and analysis, public education, collaboration, outreach and advocacy. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Colorado Center on Law and Policy (Denver): $200,000 over two years to support health policy leadership and advocacy on behalf of Colorado’s poor, working poor and other vulnerable populations.

Colorado Children’s Campaign (Denver): $100,000 toward a grant totaling $300,000 over two years for a statewide organization that provides effective advocacy for children across three areas of focus: healthcare, early childhood development and K-12 education. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved (Denver): $100,000 over two years to help ensure health care systems meet the needs of individuals facing the greatest challenges in accessing services.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (Denver): $75,000 to support women’s access to IUDs and implants, also known as long-acting reversible contraceptives.

Metro Community Provider Network (Englewood): $112,290 for a program that focuses on reducing Emergency Room visits and inpatient stays for those that rely heavily on hospitals for primary health care.

Policy Matters (Wheat Ridge): $8,333 toward a grant totaling $25,000 for state-level legislative monitoring services. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development, Education and Health program areas.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (Denver): $100,000 for a program that provides responsible sex education training for parents and youth-serving professionals in order to reduce teenage pregnancy.

Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning (Denver): $90,000 over two years for the continuation, expansion and improvement of a project that provides education, access and coordination of health care services for refugees.

University of Colorado Foundation (Denver): $1,000 to support a one-day conference entitled Establishing Core Competencies for Behavioral Health Providers Working in Primary Care: A Colorado Consensus Conference.

Jewish Life

Boulder Jewish Community Center (Boulder): $438,188 over three years for the launch of a specialty day camp, Camp Inc. Business Academy a residential business camp, and to strengthen family engagement and parenting programs.

Colorado Agency for Jewish Education (Denver): $2,050 for a professional development program fostering skill-building, and creating and encouraging connections among Jewish professionals.

Denver Academy of Torah (Denver): $62,274 for enhanced infrastructure of a private Modern Orthodox school for grades K to 12 to streamline operations.

Ekar (Denver): $92,950 over two years to strengthen infrastructure and experiential educational programs at a Jewish community farm.

Kavod Senior Life (Denver): $29,500 to fund a project to collect and use data to improve resident programs and services.

MACC (Denver): $120,000 over three years to attract new Jewish audiences by supporting Jewish arts and culture programs offered by JAAMM Fest (Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies & Music).

Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center (Denver): $120,265 for a new relationship-building process, and programs to strengthen leadership and increase staff’s ability to connect diverse individuals and families to the Jewish community.

MazelTot.org (Denver): $819,600 over two years to redesign, enhance and run this initiative connecting young families to Jewish life and to each other. MazelTot.org is an initiative of Rose Community Foundation.

Temple Emanuel (Denver): $250,000 for the renovation and expansion of Shwayder Camp, a residential Jewish camp.

Yeshiva Toras Chaim Talmudic Seminary of Denver (Denver): $100,000 for a challenge grant to renovate a residential boys’ high school and college specializing in Talmudic and Judaic studies.
