Charitable remainder trust

If you have a sizeable estate and are also looking for ways to receive reliable payments, there are many advantages of a charitable remainder trust. There are two ways to receive payments with charitable remainder trusts: the annuity trust pays you the same dollar amount you chose at the start, whereas the unitrust pays you a variable amount based on the fair market value of the trust assets.

Charitable gift annuity

Involves a simple contract between you and a nonprofit where you agree to make a gift to the organization in exchange for a fixed income payment for life. At the end of its term, the balance goes to the nonprofit to support its mission.

Charitable lead trust

After a donor makes a gift, the trust pays income to the donor’s designated nonprofit first, for a term of years or for the donor’s lifetime. After that, the trust assets are passed back to the donor or designated beneficiaries.
