Director of Donor Funds and Legacy Giving

Rose Community Foundation seeks a Director of Donor Funds and Legacy Giving to oversee, steward and grow Rose Community Foundation’s portfolio of donor-advised funds and legacy donors and collaborate with the philanthropic services team to optimize and enhance gift acceptance, donor relationships, engagement opportunities, stewardship and learning opportunities. This position is a member of the Philanthropic Services department and reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Services.

The ideal candidate is a relationship builder with strong organizational skills. They can successfully steward and develop different constituencies of Rose Community Foundation: prospective donors, existing fundholders, legacy donors and professional advisors. The candidate understands the nuances and trends of philanthropic giving and the reasons underlying donors’ philanthropic intent. They are an excellent listener and at the same time, have an ability to facilitate strategic philanthropy conversations with donors and – when appropriate – multiple generations of a donor-advised fundholder family. The candidate enjoys connecting with external audiences. They can work both collaboratively and individually as an integral part of the philanthropic services team.

Direct the Foundation’s donor-advised fund program

  • Lead the donor-advised fund team to develop donor engagement programs and resources; enhance stewardship, advising and reporting practices; and create synergies between the Foundation’s community impact and donor grantmaking teams
  • Ensure high stewardship and advising standards for all donor-advised funds
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation, including succession plans, for all funds
  • Individually steward a large portfolio of donor-advised fundholders providing research, advising, and meeting facilitation

Direct the Foundation’s legacy giving program

  • Build and maintain relationships with all Rose Community Legacy Circle members and ensure ongoing legacy donor stewardship
  • Identify and solicit new legacy commitments for the Foundation, with an emphasis on legacy gifts in support of the Foundation’s unrestricted endowment
  • Work with legacy donors to support gift planning and gift structure, and steward and facilitate the Foundation’s receipt of matured bequests
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records and documentation for all legacy gifts

New fund and donor cultivation

  • Collaborate with Foundation colleagues to identify and cultivate prospects for annual fundraising, donor-advised funds and legacy gifts, broadening and diversifying the people and communities engaging with the Foundation
  • Oversee donor-advised fund and legacy gift pipeline development and donor moves management strategies
  • Lead professional advisor relations as a source of new donor, fundholder and legacy referrals

Other major responsibilities

  • Collaborate across departments to engage donors in pooled fund, impact investing and aligned funding opportunities to enhance and grow the Foundation’s grantmaking into the community
  • Collaborate across departments to develop and maintain data-informed practices and internal and external reporting
  • Work with the Vice President of Philanthropic Services and the Chief Financial Officer to solicit, review, structure and accept gifts of complex assets, including due diligence, consultation with legal counsel, and review by the Foundation’s Gift Acceptance Committee
  • Maintain awareness of legislation, regulation and tax-code changes affecting philanthropy in general and donor-advised funds and planned giving in particular; and keep the Foundation’s leadership team informed of changes in an effort to enhance philanthropic services strategies and ability to accept gifts
  • Provide input and ideas for strategic communications and thought leadership that further goals to attract, educate, activate and engage donors

The Director of Donor Funds and Legacy Giving currently has two direct reports, supervising the Philanthropy Advisor and the Donor and Fund Services Coordinator.

Required:

  • At least seven years of professional experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in major gifts or gift planning at a nonprofit or community foundation
  • Experience working with and stewarding high net worth individuals and families
  • Experience developing fundraising strategies, including donor prospecting, pipeline development, and donor stewardship
  • Understanding of community foundations and their unique role in place-based philanthropy
  • Strong facilitation skills, highly detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong professional discretion and judgement and understanding of confidentiality with respect to donors, fundholders and prospects
  • Proven track record of working effectively across different settings, communities and issues with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and cultures
  • An understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and practices and a commitment to incorporating them into internal and external work
  • Skilled with technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Valid Driver’s license and proof of COVID-19 vaccinations 1 and 2

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent life and professional experience
  • Experience with or knowledge of donor-advised funds
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community in the Greater Denver region
  • Understanding of the nonprofit sector and community issues in the Greater Denver region

This full-time, exempt position’s hiring range is $91,800 – 114,750. Offered salary is commensurate with internal equity and salary ranges, local and national sector benchmarks, and candidate’s relevant qualifications, experience and skills. Community Impact Coordinator

Rose Community Foundation seeks a Community Impact Coordinator to support the activities of the Community Impact team with a focus on project management, meeting coordination, and supporting nonprofit and grantee partner relationships. The ideal candidate is organized, a collaborative team player, and a people-person with a passion for community.

The Community Impact team oversees Rose Community Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking in the seven-county Greater Denver region focused on fostering democracy, opportunity, belonging and supporting Jewish life. Additionally, the team leads many funder collaboratives and special funds, including those focused on immigrants and refugees, local journalism, firearm injury and death prevention, and Jewish community resiliency.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and a commitment to community. They will bring project management experience, a focus on quality and attention to detail, and an ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment. The ideal person for this role is team-oriented and self-motivated with a drive to take initiative, achieve results, and support others with trust and collaboration. They are someone who can create structure and process within multiple complex projects, managing up and out to ensure tasks are assigned and completed. They are interested in ongoing learning about best practices in institutional grantmaking and have a willingness to bring new ideas and think strategically about projects. Project Coordination

  • Project manage major initiatives of the Community Impact team, including funder collaboratives, grantee learning events, and grantmaking workflow. 
  • Lead cross-departmental coordination and projects (with Admin and Finance, Philanthropic Services and Communications) and represent the Community Impact department in cross-departmental meetings. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Administrative Grants Support

  • Bring process improvement and workflow structures to grant application reviews and decisions, assist with the monitoring and evaluation of grant-funded programs and projects, and help prepare final reports.
  • Track and update grantmaking and budgets including pledged donations to special funds.
  • Draft and edit written grant applications and reports for special funds and project manage deadlines for applications and reports.
  • Occasionally review and evaluate nonprofit grant applications and provide funding recommendations to senior staff.
  • Update and maintain constituent/stakeholder database records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

External Coordination

  • Oversee the Community Impact team’s administrative functions for external projects, including scheduling, meeting coordination and preparation, notetaking and agenda development.
  • Schedule meetings, site visits and convenings with Foundation partners, such as nonprofits, donors, foundations and community members.
  • Support nonprofit relationships, helping to manage outside inquiries and connect interested nonprofits with the appropriate staff member or funding opportunity.
  • Occasionally provide administrative or logistical support for meetings and events outside of traditional business hours.
  • Other duties as assigned

The Community Impact Coordinator reports to the Chief Impact Officer and provides support for the work of the Community Impact team

Required:

  • Minimum four years of work experience, with at least two years’ experience in project management and/or program coordination
  • Strong project management skills; able to plan, prioritize and track multiple projects under deadline
  • Commitment to and experienced in providing exceptional customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a priority on clarity and accuracy
  • Experience working effectively across different settings, communities and issues with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and cultures
  • Lived experiences and/or personal understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion and a commitment to incorporating these principles into internal and external work
  • Highly proficient user of technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Alignment with the Foundation’s mission and purpose and demonstrated interest in issues impacting the Greater Denver community

Preferred:

Philanthropic Initiatives Coordinator

Rose Community Foundation seeks a Philanthropic Initiatives Coordinator to support collaborative giving circles for Jewish teens and Jewish young adults and endowment training programs for nonprofit organizations. This position is a member of the Philanthropic Services department and reports to the Director of Collaborative Philanthropy.

The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic role and is adept at managing multiple ongoing projects. They are highly detail-oriented and organized, enabling them to prioritize tasks effectively and pivot when necessary. With strong relationship skills, they understand the nuance of working with a wide range of stakeholders from high school students and their parents to staff and board members of partner nonprofit organizations. As both an independent contributor and collaborator, they thrive in working across various levels of tasks to see projects through from planning to completion.

Initiative Project Management and Facilitation

  • Plan and carry out training sessions, meetings, and events, including coordinating scheduling and catering, overseeing logistics, including virtual tools, preparing materials and leading follow-up actions and next steps for participants.
  • Facilitate meeting learning, discussions, decision-making and training content.
  • Research and prepare meeting content and resources.
  • Identify and share Jewish teachings as relevant to programming.
  • Project manage grant cycles for collaborative giving circles and incentive grants for Endowment Building Pathways.
  • Track and manage initiative expenses and spending.
  • Coordinate and attend meetings and events outside of normal business hours in the evenings and on Sundays.

Outreach and Stewardship

  • Manage initiative recruitment, application process, and timeline.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team on initiative storytelling.
  • Support stewardship efforts of current initiative participants and alumni.
  • Support fundraising efforts for the Rose Youth Foundation endowment fund, including implementing strategies, participating in asks, and stewarding donors and prospects; provide resources to Endowment Building Pathway participants for their endowment fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the Foundation’s relationship with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, the co-funding partner for the Endowment Momentum Pathway.

Reporting and Evaluation

  • Manage timely, detailed and accurate reporting processes.
  • Maintain records and documents in the Foundation’s database.
  • Manage evaluation of initiatives and recommend program changes.

Mentoring and Coaching

  • Answer questions and provide responsive support to initiative participants and grantees.
  • Lead the mentoring and education of Rose Youth Foundation student interns to develop their leadership skills.
  • Plan and carry out team-building opportunities for giving circle initiatives.

The Philanthropic Initiatives Coordinator reports to the Director of Collaborative Philanthropy and does not have administrative support or direct reports.

Required:

  • Minimum four years of professional work experience in relevant fields including: nonprofit program management, teaching, fundraising and development, foundations, philanthropy, and grantmaking.
  • Facilitation and project management/coordination experience
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong professional discretion and judgement, with the ability to discern situations that can be managed independently and those that require the involvement of a colleague.
  • Proven track record of working effectively across different settings, communities and issues – with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and cultures.
  • An understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) principles and practices and a commitment to incorporating them into internal and external work
  • Knowledge of Judaism, the Jewish community and Jewish teachings
  • Skilled with technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Valid Driver’s License
