Luis Colón began his career in 1989 with Eli Lilly and Company as a chemical engineer. After completing his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Cambridge (England) and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan Business School, he joined A.T. Kearney, a leading management consulting firm and worked with clients in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. In 2003, he joined Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s Cabinet as the manager of the Department of General Services. Later, he started Colón-Collawn, a construction solutions company focusing on sustainable construction. He is now part of Xcelente Global’s senior team, where he focuses on consulting with clients on international business strategy as well as the firm’s core business offerings in marketing and public relations.
Mr. Colón currently serves on the board of the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado. He is an advisory board member at Teach for America and U.S. Bank. In addition, he is a commissioner on the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, a trustee of the Iliff School of Theology, and serves as a member of Rose Community Foundation’s Child and Family Development Committee.
Throughout his career, Mr. Colón has received several awards, including the National Society of Hispanic MBAs 2000 Brillante Award, and was awarded fellowships from Air Products and Chemicals, Astra-Zeneca (formerly ICI Pharmaceuticals), the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management and the William Davidson Institute. In 2006, he was selected as one of the Denver Business Journal’s “Top Forty Under 40”. In 2009, he received the American Diabetes Association Father of the Year award.
Mr. Colón was born and raised in Puerto Rico and he resides with his wife, Toti, and three children in Lone Tree, Colorado.
