Rose Community Foundation’s commitment to our community’s older adults is based on the spiritual commandment, “honor thy father and mother.”

In an era of lengthening life spans, increasing mobility, expanding choices and changing patterns in family life, aging isn’t what it used to be. Older adults are a diverse group, ranging from 60-year-olds in the prime of life to those over 100 who require around-the-clock care.

The Greater Denver community is home to more than 290,000 adults over 60, and that number will increase 40 percent by 2020. A major challenge is to provide a wide spectrum of services that caters to varying health and economic status, location and background. How people age will continue to change dramatically as the baby boom generation reaches retirement age. What seniors want, and what society can afford, is an environment in which older adults can remain as independent as possible for as long as possible.

In its Aging program area, Rose Community Foundation promotes change in how communities organize care and support for both seniors and caregivers, with particular attention to the needs of low- and moderate-income seniors. In addition to funding community-based programs, the Foundation plays a leadership role in strengthening the existing network of aging resources, including initiatives that bring together community and government partners to address key issues in aging.

The Foundation is especially interested in projects that address the following priorities:

  • direct in-home and community-based services;

  • transportation;

  • end-of-life care.
