September 22, 2008 Rose Community Foundation Announces Contest Winners Denver, CO - Anna Berman and Eliana Goldberg are the winners of Rose Community Foundation’s 2008 Rosh Hashanah Greeting Card Contest. This is the eleventh year of the contest, which invites students to create the artwork and text of a card that Rose Community Foundation sends in celebration of the Jewish New Year. Anna, the daughter of Mark and Jody Berman, created the artwork that appears on the cover. She is a fifth-grader at Cottonwood Creek Elementary in Englewood and likes to collect rocks, shells and charms. Eliana, the daughter of Bill Goldberg and Karen Silverman, wrote the letter G-d inside the card. She is a third-grader at Carson Elementary, and enjoys cooking and drumming. Rose Community Foundation partnered with The Mizel Arts and Culture Center to hold the 2008 Rosh Hashanah Greeting Card Contest. Local artist Risa Aqua led an interactive workshop where children were invited to draw a picture and write a message expressing their thoughts about Rosh Hashanah. The winners directed $500 to the charities of their choice. Anna donated $250 to MaxFund (maxfund.org) and $250 to Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center (rockymountainchildrenslawcenter.org), while Eliana donated $250 to her school (carson.dpsk12.org) and $250 to the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center (jccdenver.org). The free art workshop to produce next year’s Rosh Hashanah Greeting Card will be held on Sunday, November 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Mizel Center for Arts & Culture at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center at 350 South Dahlia Street in Denver. The workshop is open to children in grades 1 through 6. Space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended.
