Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver
John Barry serves as the President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. He is responsible for 18 standalone and school-based sites serving 2,000 kids each day with 10,000 registered members, 125 full-time staff, and a $12 million annual budget.
John Barry was the Founder of VISTA Quest, LLC, in 2013, a full-spectrum senior consulting and professional service firm on education consisting of 16 state Superintendents of the Year from 11 different states in the Nation.
Mr. Barry was the Superintendent of Aurora Public Schools for seven years from 2006–2013. He served in the United States Air Force for more than 30 years as a combat veteran, fighter pilot/USAF “Top Gun” graduate, military assistant to the secretary of defense and commander multiple times at the squadron, group and twice at the wing command level. He retired in 2004 as a "two star" major general, and his last tour on active duty as board member and executive director for the Space Shuttle Columbia Accident Investigation. His immediate job for three years after the Air Force was serving as the vice president of SAP.
Mr. Barry is an Honor graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a double major in international affairs and political science, received his Master in Public Administration from Oklahoma University, was a White House Fellow in 1986–1987, attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard on a fellowship in 1993-1994 and is a graduate of the Broad Superintendent Academy in 2004.
In 2011, Mr. Barry was selected by the Colorado Association of School Executives as the Superintendent of the Year. In 2013, he was selected as the Communicator of the Year by the Colorado School Public Relations Association. He serves on Rose Community Foundation’s Education Committee.
