Health Management Associates
Joan Henneberry joined Health Management Associates (HMA) in January 2012 after serving as the planning director for the Health Insurance Exchange in Colorado, where she developed the strategic plan for the establishment of an exchange, staffed the first board of directors, monitored and responded to proposed rules and regulations, and developed four work groups of stakeholders and experts to advise the planning process. At HMA she works with government and private sector clients to implement components of the Affordable Care Act; to develop new business models and partnerships that will allow specialty providers to be part of new networks and new service delivery approaches; and to assist health care organizations with market assessments and business planning.
From 2007-2011, Ms. Henneberry served on the cabinet of Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. as the executive director of the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, the state agency responsible for public health insurance programs including Medicaid and CHP+. She was the senior health policy advisor to the Governor, developing and implementing policies and programs that expanded the availability of public health insurance programs for the State of Colorado. Between 1997 and 2004 Ms.Henneberry held several positions at the National Governors Association in Washington, D.C., including director of health policy.
Ms. Henneberry serves on several state and national boards and advisory committees, including Rose Community Foundation’s Health Committee. She has a master’s degree in management from Regis University, and completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government in 2008. Ms. Henneberry was the 2011 recipient of the John Iglehart Award for Leadership in Health Policy from The Colorado Health Foundation.
