Colorado Latino Age Wave

Donor Services

The mission of Colorado Latino Age Wave is to invest in and advocate for innovative services and programs that support the well-being of Denver’s Latino older adult populations.

Launched in October 2011, Colorado Latino Age Wave was developed in response to research by partnering organization, Hispanics in Philanthropy, that projected a rising “wave” of Latinos entering la tercera edad (third stage of life), and identified a unique set of needs for this growing population. Read the full report, "The Latino Age Wave: What Changing Ethnic Demographics Mean for the Future of Aging in the United States."

Through a partnership between Hispanics in Philanthropy, the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado and Rose Community Foundation, metro Denver was selected as the inaugural community to begin building capacity and innovative programs to support the well-being of Latino older adults.

The Opportunity
Colorado Latino Age Wave views our older Latino family members as gifts in our lives – people who bring incredible energy, wisdom, skills, and contributions to our families and communities. This is an opportunity to fully engage with and benefit from this growing and active aging population.

At the same time, we must place priority on better understanding the specific social, health and financial issues facing Latino older adults in metro Denver, and seek new ways to support their well-being in a way that celebrates the assets they offer.

Programs

  • Community Assessment – Through March 2012, a metro Denver community assessment will evaluate resources and pressing issues.

  • Community Grants Program – Nonprofits will be invited to apply for two phases of grants to help plan and implement innovative programs that work to improve the well-being of Latino older adults in metro Denver. The grant application process is not open yet. Details and an application will be posted when available (Summer 2012).

  • Fellowship Program – A few key leaders will be selected and trained to work directly on projects that effect positive change for the Latino older adult population.
